Herb Naeb
Herbert (Herb) Reinhold Naeb died at his home in Harpster, Idaho, Feb. 9, 2011. He struggled with Alzheimers disease for seven years.
Herb was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Brighton, to Reinhold (Reinie) and Elizabeth (Elsie( Naeb), who are deceased.
He attended the Brighton schools, where he played football, and graduated from Brighton High School in 1949. This class remained very close through the years and always had a good turnout at reunions.
Herb served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954 on the LST-1146. His rank was E3c (engine man third class). The ship made several trips to Japan and Alaska.
He met his wife, Virginia, in Compton, Calif., and they marred Oct. 10, 1953. After his discharge, they returned to Brighton where he worked as a mechanic. He worked for the Colorado Distributing Co., a Coors warehouse, for 11 1/2 years. He owned and operated a Texaco station for three years in Liberal, Kan., and five years in Brighton. He and his wife moved to Idaho, where he worked for American Fine Foods for 11 years.
He drove an 18-wheel truck delivering canned products to the Northwest and central states. After losing a year of work because of a truck wreck, he continued working as a fork-lift driver for four more years.
He and his wife did some traveling and worked and managed RV parks for 12 years. That was interesting.
Herb enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR races. He was always a fan of the Denver Broncos, whether they were winning or losing.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Anne and Pamela Kaye, of Clinton, Mont.; a son, Bruce (Cyndi), of Mead; five grandchildren, four great-granddaughters (plus another expected in August); a brother, De Loy (Holly) Naeb, of Albuquerque; two sisters, Betty Foster and Darlene Rowe, of Brighton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., June 4, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 Skeel St., in Brighton. Lunch will be served afterward.
