BRIGHTON – Family and friends remembered Alvin Wagner Oct. 24 at Memorial Parkway, with the unveiling of a memorial and plaque dedicated to him. Wagner, a noted historian, author and former Brighton Blade Editor, passed away May 12 at 73.
Mayor Dick McLean said he remembered Wagner riding his bike around town and for all of the history he knew. “He was just Mr. Brighton. That’s how I’ll always remember him,” he said.
Many of his other friends also noted they knew Wagner from his cycling habits. It was through those meetings that Brighton resident Wayne Scott got to know him as “a real guy.” Manager of Treads Bicycle Outfitters, Pete Phibbs, also met Wagner on the bike trails. He said Wagner used to ride by the shop everyday, and that they still miss seeing him go by.
Wagner’s niece Amanda Crissup, of Broomfield, thanked everyone on behalf of her family, and said the memorial and event was really significant to them. She said they appreciate the time the city has put into remembering him, because that’s how they remember him.
