Barrie Hattel, 76, of Brighton, passed away peacefully at his home Nov. 2. He was born June 26, 1941, in Firestone, to John and Odetta (Matoush) Hattel. Barrie attended high school in Brighton and graduated in 1959.
He attended the University of Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Bender. They were married Feb. 11, 1962.
He lived most of his life in Colorado, enjoying hunting and fishing, but he was most happy just being with his family. He was the Wikipedia of the family, always there to answer questions and assist wherever he could, especially helping his sons to fix cars or anything else they needed as they raised their own families.
He was a proud member of the Brighton Elks Lodge, where he was exalted ruler from 1988-1989.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 55 years; their sons, David (Shelly) and twins Christopher and Curtis (Sarah); seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Brighton Elks Lodge, 101 N. Main St., followed by a luncheon.
