Former Durango resident William Bremkamp died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in Greenwood Village, a Denver suburb. He was 87.
Known as “Bill," he was born to Louis and Estelle Bremkamp on May 22, 1922, in Brighton. Mr. Bremkamp graduated from Brighton High School . He went on to graduate from the Colorado School of Mines in 1949.
On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Josephine Rombeck in Denver.
Mr. Bremkamp enjoyed a long career in the oil and gas industry, working for Pure Oil Co., which was acquired by Union Oil.
The Bremkamp family lived in Durango from 1961 to 1977. Mr. Bremkamp was a member of St. Columba Parish and the Petroleum Club, which was located in the Strater Hotel. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Navajo Reservoir.
Mr. Bremkamp is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Josephine Bremkamp, of Greenwood Village; daughters Carole Shank of Durango, Susan Lang of Centennial, Roxanne Sienkiewicz of Casper, Wyo., and Karen Carnahan of Fort Collins; sons Stephen Bremkamp of Loveland and James Bremkamp of Sheridan, Wyo.; sister, Elizabeth Hattendorf, of Brighton; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
