Mina Blanche Gilbert Fletcher
January 06, 2004 Mina Blanche Fletcher, 98, of Brookings, died Dec. 28, 2003, in her home of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 13, 1905 in Brighton, Colo. to John and Katie Stoffel Gilbert.
She grew up in Rifle, Colo., graduated from high school there, and then attended Gunnison Normal School.
In 1925, she moved to Grants Pass, and worked for the local water district office, and later, Chicago Title Company.
She married Mark Emery Fletcher Dec, 25, 1926 in Grants Pass.
They moved to Pocatello, Idaho and thereafter followed Mr. Fletcher's railroad work. The couple retired in Glenn's Ferry, Idaho in 1965 and returned to Grants Pass where they lived until Mr. Fletcher's death in 1981.
Mrs. Fletcher moved with her daughter Kitty to Brookings in 1997.
She was a hard worker throughout her life, her family said, and tended a large garden each year. Mrs. Fletcher grew beautiful flowers, especially roses.
She was a talented pianist, and in her younger years kept busy playing for the Rebekahs, the Salvation Army and the Moose lodge.
She was a past member of the Rebekahs and the Lady Elks. While living in Grants Pass, she was an active member of the 40+ Club, and had served as treasurer of the senior center.
Survivors include her daughter Kitty MacLeod of Brookings; son and daughter-in-law John S. and Carol Fletcher of Kirkland, Wash. Also surviving are five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; brother, Ray Gilbert, and grandson Kirk MacLeod.
