3 Die in Traffic Accidents

Dean Allen Monroe, 18, Commerce City
Monroe and a passenger, Shelli Ann Whaley, 17, 17756 WCR 8, were northbound on Interstate 76 just north of Colorado 7 in Adams County about 12:40 AM Sunday when their vehicle was hit head-on by a car traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.
The occupants of he second car were Rito Vieyra, 23, of 2025 W. 32nd Ave and Anastacio Robles, 35, of 2608 W. 32nd Ave. It was unclear which of them was driving, the patrol said. Both men were treated at Brighton Community Hospital and released.
Monore died of injuries in Brighton Community Hospital. Whaley was transported by helicopter to North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley. She was reported in fair condition with a fractured leg and pelvis

Funeral services for Dean Allen Monroe, 18, of 13222 Addish, Commerce City, were held March 2 at Lewis Funeral Home. He died February 26 in an automobile accident
He was born August 11, 1964, in Denver, the son of David and Patricia Monroe, and spent his early years in Denver.
He moved to the Brighton area in 1978 and made his home with his aunt and uncle, Ed and Judy Wood. He graduated in 1982 from Brighton High School were he was active in Future Farmers of America, wrestling, and football.
He joined the U.S. Army in September 1982 and was honorably discharged because of medical problems.
He is survived by his parents David and Neleta Monroe, of Cheyenne, WY, and Robert and Patricia Stenke of Denver, two sisters, Paula and Nancy,, five brothers, Robert, William, Donny, Brian and Mike; aunts and uncles; Ed and Judy Wood of Brighton, Ron and Shirley Dunn of Aurora and Larry and Kayoka Monroe of Hawaii; grandmothers, Corda Rodebaugh of Margaret Gutierrez of Austin, TX, and many other relatives.
The Rev. Steve Alles officiated at the service. Casket bearers were Jerry Andrews, John Hishinuma, Wade Martin, Kevin Lockett, Robert Stenke and Robert Wood.
Entombment was at Tower of Memories, Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheatridge.
