Harvey 'Don' Flitner
BRIGHTON, Colo. - Services for Brighton resident Harvey "Don" Flitner, 71, were conducted Jan. 14, 2005, at Zion Congregational Church in Brighton.
Cremation had taken place and inurnment was in Erie, Colo., Cemetery.
He died Jan. 9, 2005, in Aurora, Colo.
Born Jan. 16, 1933, in Denver, he was the son of Mardenborough N. and Nellie T. (Murray) Flitner; and attended Brighton High School and Colorado University-Denver.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served on the U.S.S. Bremerton.
On June 10, 1956, he married LaVernne Godel in Denver.
A resident of Brighton since 1963, he was a barber for 20 years and licensed in California and Colorado; owned and operated Don's Barber Shop in Hudson, Colo.; and attended cosmetology school. He also welded and worked as a heavy-equipment operator and mechanic and owned and operated Y Knot Drive Inn in Hudson.
He was an Arthur Murray dance instructor and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Brighton; American Legion of Keenesburg, Colo.; Brighton Elks Club; Green Valley Grange; Hudson Lions Club; and Operating Engineers No. 9 of Denver.
A collector of unique items and cars, he was a rockhound and loved to travel in his RV; and his dog, Little Bit. He raised pot-bellied pigs and enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years of Brighton; son, Mark Flitner, and his wife of Mountain View; two daughters, Debbie Chumley of Brighton and Mickey Dill-Gray and her husband of Hudson; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister, and a son-in-law.
