Felix Sandoval, my uncle, was born on February 14, 1931, in Brighton, CO, to Jose and Lupita (Maestas) Sandoval. He grew up in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1951.
Uncle Felix joined the Navy right out of high school. Three years later he married Delores Grajeda on June 26, 1954, in San Diego, CA
He was a kind man and had a sense of humor. He served in the Navy and throughout the rest of his life, he would invite and support lonely Navy servicemen in his home in San Diego, especially during the holidays. He was a great support to me growing up and encouraging me to get my education.
In the summer, he was known to tell his wife and kids to get into the car for a drive, and they would end up in Colorado. He would just show up here, too, to our surprise. While here, the kids got there school clothes for the next year and we all enjoyed their visit.
He had just retired at the age of 60 and was looking forward to traveling the country (which he loved), and was diagnosed with cancer. He never got the chance. Uncle Felix died, on March 26, 1991 in El Cajon, CA, on the 12th anniversary of his father's death.
