Floyd Earl Powers
May 27, 1920 - November 29, 2008
Salem, Oregon - Former resident of Alaska Floyd E. Powers, 88, died November 29 at Brookstone Alzheimer's Center in Salem, from a stroke after falling. Mr. Powers was born May 27, 1920 in Jackson , Neb. , to Roy and Eathel Powers. He graduated high school and college inBrighton , Colo. He earned a bachelors degree in sanitary engineering. He married Ena D. St. Claire on January 4, 1942, before going overseas for World War II. Mr. Powers and his wife came toAlaska in 1946 after World War II and settled inAnchorage with their two young daughters. He worked as an engineer for USARAL on FortRichardson and retired in 1973 after 27 years of service. After retirement, Mr. Powers and his wife moved to Salem . He enjoyed making beautifulAlaska jewelry for family and friends, and would winter in Southern Calif. and sell his items at trade shows. Floyd was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor and was always proud of his family and loved being the "patriarch" of the clan. He was a soldier in the 101st Airborne and fought in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge and Bastogne . He received the Bronze Star as a result of this service. Survived by his second wife, Doris Powers; his daughters, Helen Dominquez of Reno ,Nev. and Marcia Bolton of Anchorage , Alaksa; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Shryock of Reno , Nev. ; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his first wife, Ena; his stepson, Donn Shryock; stepdaughter, Louise Pulver; his brother, Verne; and sister, Goldia. Contributions may be to Humane Society of theWillamette Valley . There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 16 at City View Funeral Home. Private inurnment.
