Eugene R. Brown
U.S. veteran Eugene R. Brown, 80, of Longmont, died May 14, 2010, at Longmont United Hospital.
He was born May 26, 1929, to Lawrence and Sophia (Spies) in Kansas. He graduated from Brighton High School and honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Eugene married Firma Zimmerman June 2, 1956. Eugene was a meat cutter early in his career. He then opened a grocery store, E & G Foods, in Fort Lupton with his brother, Edward. He bought and operated a convenience store in Longmont with his wife. He moved from Fort Lupton to Longmont in 1980. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Elks and Rotary Clubs. Eugene enjoyed fishing, bingo and camping.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard Brown (Stacy), of Clinton, Iowa, and Bruce Brown (Lisa), of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three daughters, Berniece Zadel (Greg), of Firestone, Brenda Racine of Loveland and Bobbie Jo Pastecki (Steve), of Loveland; a brother, Edward Brown, of Brighton; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Brown; a sister, Florence Brown, of Greeley; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife May 30, 2008; his parents; and seven siblings, William, Victor, Melvin, Alvin, Robert and Marcella Brown and Martina Wagner.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m., May 20, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. Rosary prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., May 21 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:15 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
