Margaret Jean Lauterbach, age 83, of Osage, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Osage, with Pastor Paul Brown officiating.
Jean was born August 19, 1925, in Denver, CO, the only child of Ira and Margaret (Boyd) Bashor. She grew up on a ranch near Greeley, CO. Jean attended school in Brighton, CO and graduated from Brighton High School in 1941. She became a civilian employee of the Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio and radar technician in Ogden, UT. While working there she met Lewis Guy Lauterbach and they were united in marriage on February 10, 1946 in Aurora, CO. They made their home in Ames, IA while Lewis attended Iowa State and later moved to Osage where Lewis was a long time vocational agriculture instructor. Jean held several jobs in the area including those at the Mitchell County Press-News and as a dispatcher for Kark Rendering. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Osage and also served positions at the state, regional and national levels for the American Baptist Church. Jean was a member of the Gideon's Auxiliary and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. She loved to read, sew, do crafts and travel.
Jean is survived by a daughter Linda Brackett of Wilton, Maine, and her two sons Antonio Young of Philadelphia, PA, Carlston Young (Cheire) of Livermore Falls, Maine and their children Bailey and Jenna; daughter-in-law, Laura Lee Jones of Peru, Maine and her children, Tystol Young and Brent Young; a son, Jon Martin (Diane) Lauterbach of Gilbert, AZ and their daughter Laura Anne Lauterbach; a foster daughter, Marsha (James) Fisher of Davenport and their children Charles, James and Jessica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis Lauterbach (died August 5, 2006); and a grandson, Christopher Young.
