Karen Eiko Matsushima, 54, of Longmont passed away Friday, January 11, 2008. Born in Denver, she was the daughter of Charles and Frances Mizunaga. The middle child of five, she graduated from Brighton High School . In school, she participated in Young Buddhist Association, where she met, befriended and fell in love with her future husband Randy. With two children in tow, they found home in Longmont. Karen worked administrative, knitted sweaters, and sewed many wedding gowns. She found time to be a member of the Japanese folk dance Minyo Kai. You could always see her volunteering for various church events, including the baking of over 30 different types of cookies once. She was able to create her ideal kitchen shortly before succumbing to a short battle with cancer. She is survived by father Charles of Brighton, sisters Yuki (Kimura) of Tujunga and Joyce of Aurora, brothers Eddie of Ventura and Johnny of Brighton, husband Randy, sons David, Eric and wife Jenifer of Deland, FL, and grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, Connor and Alyssa.
Services will be held Tues., January 15, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Denver Buddhist Temple, 1947 Lawrence Street, Denver.
