Lester O. Wall 82, of Houston, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, July 8, 2012. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Les was born on March 11, 1930 on a diary farm in Brighton, Colorado, fourth out of five children to John and Thekla Wall, a hard working German Lutheran family. He learned a hard work ethic and family values from these humble roots. He attended the University of Colorado on a football scholarship, transferred to and graduated from The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1952.
He started out as a physical education teacher in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and then switched to a career in accounting in the oil and gas business. He worked at Chevron Oil in Casper, Wyoming, The California Co., in Denver, and Colorado Interstate Gas in Colorado Springs. He was transferred to Texas in 1973 to work at the Coastal Corp. as Manager of Contract Administration until his retirement in 1995.
Les was an avid sports fan and especially followed football, basketball, and baseball and could remember all kinds of details and statistics about teams and players from throughout his life. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he participated in the prayer outreach to patients in hospitals and helped qualify the unemployed for work at West Houston Assistant Ministries.
Les was remembered by most as a loving and devoted family man; a wonderful Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He spent hours playing games with his children and grand-daughter and never missed an important event.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Wall; two children, Bradley A. Wall, 57 of Galveston, Jane Leslie Rebescher, 55 of New Braunfels; his granddaughter, Leslie Ann Rebescher, 22 of Houston; siblings, Norma Hahn of Denver, Eileen Meehl of Brighton, Colorado, and Dr. Donald and Carrie Wall of Denver.
He was predeceased by his parents, John C. and Thekla Barthel Wall and his oldest brother, Harlan Wall and Brothers-in-law, Alvin Hahn and Paul Meehl.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Melba Brown for the loving care she provided to Les recently. She and Les could be heard laughing, singing and watching television together. Though these recent years were difficult for Les, he always smiled and never complained. We will miss you, Poppy.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Forest Park Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Service to be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane in the Founders' Chapel on Thursday, July 12, at 10:30 am. The service is to be officiated by The Reverend Dr. Michael L. Fry. Reception to follow in Massey Tucker Room.
Anyone who would rather send a donation in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals @ www.spca.org in memory of Les and his love of animals.
