Brighton college student dies in Weld crash
WELD COUNTY – State troopers continue to investigate a Saturday accident that killed a University of Northern Colorado student.
According to the state patrol, Madison Middleton , 19, of Brighton, was headed south on U.S. Highway 85 near Weld County Road 26, north of Fort Lupton shortly before 7 a.m., when her 2009 Hyundai Accent crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic and collided with a water tanker truck.
Middleton ’s vehicle caught fire and she died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Frankie King, 45, of Gilcrest, was uninjured in the crash. Middleton was reportedly on her way to meet her mother for a Christmas baking party.
The crash closed the highway for several hours. It was reopened about 11 a.m.
Services for Middleton are planned for 2:30 p.m., Dec. 23, at Brighton United Methodist Church, 625 S. Eighth Ave. Olinger-Highland Mortuary is handling arrangements.
