Teen to be tried on manslaughter charges
Teen to be tried on manslaughter charges: District Judge John Popovich has ordered a 13-year old Adams County boy to stand trial in Brighton for manslaughter Aug. 8 in the shooting death of his uncle.
Popovich also lifted a gag order Thursday that he had imposed shortly after the incident occurred, ruling that reporters may cover future hearings if the boy's name and photograph aren't published.
The boy allegedly told authorities shortly after the shooting Feb. 26 that he shot and killed his uncle, Mark Theodoran , 30, because Theodoran was beating the boy's mother.
Theodoran , a resident of unincorporated Adams County, died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
The boy, who is free on $5,000 cash bond, is being represented by public defender Jody Ewing.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to the Department of Corrections for up to two years. That two-year sentence can be increased by another two years if his behavior while in custody warrants the increase.
