Mimi Misao Tsuji, 80, of Cass Lake, died in her sleep Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at her home.
Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1928, to George and Toi (Yoshida) Morimitsu in Fort Lupton, Colo. She was the fifth daughter of 13 children. About a year after she graduated high school, Mimi moved to Omaha, Neb., with her sister, Kimi, to become a nanny for a small family with two children. She was fortunate enough to travel to Florida with the family on vacations. While in Omaha, she met Sam Tsuji, and they got married on June 21, 1952. They settled in Omaha and raised two sons and three daughters. After her first stroke in 2001, she and Sam moved to Albany, N.Y. In 2002, they settled in Cass Lake in order to be near their son and his family. Despite her health problems, she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent several summers traveling in a recreational vehicle with her husband, on various fishing trips. She was also a collector of memorabilia.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Tsuji of Cass Lake; sons, Chester (Diane) Tsuji of Centreville, Va., Mark (Rebecca) Tsuji of Cass Lake; daughters, JoAnn (Kiyo) Shirataki of Chicago, Ill., Lisa Tsuji of Chicago, Ill., Nora (Ray) McCarthy of Manassas, Va.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry (Taeko) Morimitsu and Jack (Mary) Morimitsu; sisters, Tomi Urano, Judy Hiraki, Fren Ault, Kimi Nakadoi, Sachi Fujimoto, Shirley Mathews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kazuo, Kay and Sam; sister, Fumi and two grandchildren.
