SEATTLE - Memorial services for former Wyoming resident Nora Agnes (Rice) Wire Argyr McNeil, 93, of Stanwood, Wash., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle.
She died April 28, 2003, at Warm Beach Care Center in Washington.
Born Oct. 30, 1909, in Shoshoni, she was the daughter of Roy and Florence (O'Connor) Rice; and moved to Brighton, Colo., at age 8 to live with James A. and Lillian (Rice) Wire.
She graduated from high school in Brighton and completed nurses training at Children's Hospital in Denver.
In 1934, she married Nicholas Argyr and helped him in his medical practice in Del Norte, Colo., until his death in 1936.
She returned to nursing in 1938 and served as hospital assistant supervisor and chief nurse at St. John's Hospital in Jackson Hole.
On Sept. 9, 1942, she married the Rev. Canon Walter W. McNeil Jr., D.D., in Jackson. He preceded her in death in 1983, after 41 years of marriage.
After World War II, the family moved to Torrington; and, in 1948, to Washington. They lived in Seattle, Ballard, Port Angeles and Des Moines.
In 1996, she became a resident of Warm Beach.
Survivors include her sister, Bernice Harvey of Minneapolis; daughter, Marsha Chowning of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sons, James of Everett, Wash., and Bruce of Marysville, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Chapter JA-WA, P.E.O. Sisterhood, in care of vice president MaryLee Powell, 3716 Westminster Drive, Port Orchard, Wash. 98366. Memorials will benefit P.E.O.'s Project for Continuing Education.
