- July 25, 1970 Rachel Avery celebrated her 25 year high school reunion. What follows is copied directly from the program.
Rachel (Kasson) Avery
Is a housewife and mother. Her husband, Clare, is (a) Professosr of Accounting at Northern Illinois University. They have two girls and two boys, James 20, Patricia, 17, Bob 13 and Mary Virginia, 2, and live at 415 Hillcrest Dr, Dekalb, IL 60115.
Of Interest - After spending three quarters at Greeley, I fell in love and married a lad from Omaha, NE, Clarence Avery. We then spent a year in Virginia while he kept a date with Uncle Sam. After discharge, I became a clerk-typist for three years while Clare worked on his bachelor's degree. By the time 1950 rolled around Uncle Sam called on him once more, just after the arrival of the first baby and before school was finished. Army service took another year and then back to school for him and house and baby care for me. (We) spent four years in Omaha during which Pat arrived and the Bachelor's Degree was awarded. We then moved to Champaign, IL where I became a graduate student's wife. At the income we had I do believe we would have been considered poverty cases, but somehow we overcame the various childhood diseases and another new baby - Bob. Eventually the CPA and the PhD were granted and we were off to Cincinnati for the first job as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Cincinnati. It was great living in a house and getting a new car. Life has been good to us since, and (we) have spent many hours on Fine Arts Drives, PTA, church work, faculty wives and my favorite pasttime, gourmet cooking. Clare has been the head of the Accountancy Dept for eight years at Northern Illinois University , but just recently he resigned as Head and has returned to teaching full time. We made two trips to Mexico and want to go back. The children are busy being teen-agers, which is frustrating to Mom most of the time, but thanks to our newest addition, life is always exciting. Best wishes to all of you!
