Samuel Herbel was born December 22, 1913 at Tampa, Kansas. He lived in Brighton all of his adult life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy for two years. For 14 years prior to 1941 he was employed by the Lehrman Mercantile Co. and later worked for, and was a partner in, Wall Clothing Co. He married Evelyn Jerkel on September 13, 1936 in Brighton. They had one son, Ronald Samuel. Sam was a member of Zion Congregational Church, V.F.W. Post #2841 and he and Evelyn were both active members of their community. Sam died on February 27, 1858 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Several years later Evelyn married Wilbert Wiederman and they now live in Yuma, Colorado.
