Story of Sarah's car accident as told to me
I came across your website last week when I was thinking about my high school best friend, Sarah Hottel.
It’s been 42 years today since she died in a tragic car accident.
Sarah’s family moved away from Brighton in 1978 and came to Allenspark, near Estes Park, where I lived at the time.
There is no high school in Allenspark, so all Allenspark kids came to the Estes Park high school.
Sarah was my best friend for my junior and senior year and she graduated in 1980 from Estes Park high school, as I did too.
She was out with some friends on the night of August 26, and they were drinking, and they drove off a mountain road and Sarah was thrown from the vehicle and didn’t survive her injuries.
The others in the car with her were either slightly injured or not injured at all.
It was such a tragedy and a shock for her to die. We had just graduated high school and had our whole lives ahead of us.
