Steven Charles Plasters, 64, of Greeley, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 29, 2014.
Steve, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, bravely confronted and fought lung cancer before his passing.
His hobbies included gardening, recreational shooting and spending quality time with his grandkids.
Steve was born Dec. 18, 1949, to Vera and William Plasters in Sleepy Eye, Minn. He attended Zion Lutheran School and, subsequently, graduated from Brighton High School in 1968. Steve attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and Mesa College in Grand Junction, then attended Aims Community College in Greeley, UNC in Greeley and then finished at CSU in Fort Collins.
He was drafted into the Army in February 1969. He trained at Fort Lewis, Wash., and Fort Ord, Calif. He was stationed in Long Bin, Vietnam, from 1969-1970. Steve received an honorable discharge out of Fort Carson in 1971 and received the bronze star for gallantry and multiple distinguished metals.
He retired as a supervisor with the Colorado Department of Transportation in 2004. He worked as an engineer for 30 years. He worked for several private consulting firms for the last six years and then finally retired completely from Colorado Civil Group Consulting Engineers in Loveland.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debra Plasters; children, Stephanie Deutcher and Carrie Plasters; stepchildren, Matthew Teel and Nicole Teel; grandchildren, Hayden Plasters, Michael Windyka Jr., Nina, Lace and Ryan Teel; mother, Vera Plasters; siblings, Paul Plasters, Jana Plasters, David Plasters, Mark Plasters and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, William T. Plasters.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Resurrection Fellowship, 6502 E. Crossroads Blvd., Loveland, CO.
Burial will be held for family and close friends at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Debra Plasters, c/o Northern Colorado Crematory, 700 8th St., Greeley, CO 80631.
