Albany man dies after Thursday crash on Highway 34
An Albany man has died as the result of a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning near milepost 6 on Highway 34 west of Albany.
Oregon State Police reported that Todd Allison, 48, was traveling eastbound on the highway at about 5:45 a.m. when his vehicle lost control due to icy road conditions. It reportedly slid across the westbound lanes and into a car driven by Chelsea Tharp, 31, of Lebanon. She had moved to the shoulder to avoid Allison.
Tharp was not transported. Allison was airlifted to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, where he succumbed Friday to his injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, local fire departments and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

AACORVALLIS, Ore. - An Albany man died Friday from injuries sustained when his car slid into oncoming traffic on an icy stretch of Highway 34 between Interstate 5 and Corvallis Thursday morning.
Oregon State Police responded to the crash at 5:45 a.m. March 7.
The investigation found that an eastbound silver Hyundai Elantra driven by Todd Allison, 48, of Albany slid on ice into the westbound lanes.
The Hyundai collided with a black VW Jetta driven by Chelsea Tharp, 31, of Lebanon, police said. Tharp had driven to the highway shoulder in an attempt to avoid the Hyundai, state police said.
Medics rushed Allison by helicopter to Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland for treatment. He died from his injuries Friday, police said.
Tharp was not transported by medics for injuries, police said.
