Man struck by trucks
A Denver man was killed shortly before 11 a.m. Monday when he was struck by a gravel truck and then run over by a second one on U.S. 6 at Tripp Road.
Witnesses reported Thomas Erger , 48, was stopped on the side of the road, apparently attempting to a change a tire on his white Jeep Cherokee, and stepped into the traffic lane.
Both truck drivers, who work for a Colorado Springs sand and gravel company, stopped at the scene. Their tandem dump trucks were empty but weighed 32,500 pounds each, police said.
The driver of the first truck was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, where he was treated for shock. Witnesses are asked to call police at 303-384-8063 or 303-384-8065.
