Tribute: Yoshiye "Yo" Sakurai Tateyama was born in Lucerne to Torasaku and Ito (Tanaka) Sakurai.
She graduated from high school in Brighton .
On Jan. 26, 1940, she married Hiroshi Tateyama and they were married for 66 years before he passed away on July 9, 2006. They farmed in the Eaton/Ault area until they retired in 1988.
Mrs. Tateyama was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Eaton/Ault, a member of the Eaton Historical Society and the Colorado Dairy Women's Organization.
She loved her travels around the world with friends who were part of the Colorado Dairy Women's Organization, formerly known as the Dairyettes, as well as with the Mountain Dairy Association and the National and Colorado Brown Swiss Associations. She enjoyed promoting dairy products through the years at the Colorado Legislature Day, National Western Stock Show, Colorado Farm Show and other events. She loved visiting her daughter's home in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Mrs. Tateyama was an avid sports fan and watched Rockies games on TV faithfully. She loved the Rockies, Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche games that she attended, especially when accompanied by her grandsons, Gregg and Troy. She also enjoyed plays and her season tickets at the Union Colony Civic Center.
Since 1988, she participated in the Senior Fitness programs from Aims Community College and the Eaton Recreation Center. The companionship and support from her instructor and classmates greatly enhanced her quality of life. A sincere and genuine person, she was accepting of everyone she met. She gave others the most important gift of all, herself.
Mrs. Tateyama died Saturday at her home surrounded by family.
Survivors: Three sons, George and wife Jeanne Tateyama and Robert and wife Diane Tateyama, all of Ault, and Eugene Tateyama of Fullerton, Calif.; two daughters, Sharyn McGrath and husband Anthony of Tucson, Ariz., and Betty Tateyama of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Sakaguchi and husband Keizo of Denver; a brother, Kunio Sakurai and wife Kathy of Denver; sister-in-law, Ruby Sakurai of Denver; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her parents; her husband, Hiroshi; and a brother, John Sakurai.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church of Eaton.
Interment: Private family interment at Eaton Cemetery.
